Arlis "Jay" McNemar, Jr., 88, was born on September 5, 1936, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Bertie Ruth Leathers McNemar and Arlis Jay McNemar, and passed away peacefully at home on December 9, 2024, in Georgetown, Texas.
Jay graduated from Pine Bluff High School and went on to attend Oklahoma University on a naval R.O.T.C. Scholarship. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering he received a commission as a naval ensign. He served four years in the U.S. Navy before attending the University of Arkansas where he received a Master of Science Degree in mechanical engineering. In 1964 he relocated to Houston to work for Shell where he retired after a 30-year career. Jay spent many of his retirement years volunteering with The Caring Place, where he also served as Board President. Jay was an active member of several Presbyterian churches throughout his life and most recently a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Bonnie Jentho McNemar, daughter Jennifer and husband, Robby Hobbs, son Andrew McNemar, granddaughter Sally Kate Humphries and husband, Brandon Morse, grandsons Andrew Humphries, Collin McNemar, Reid McNemar, Grayson McNemar and Noah McNemar, two great grandsons, many nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family and friends he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elizabeth Seder, and brother Kenneth McNemar.
A memorial service to give thanks for God's gift of life to Jay will be held Thursday, December 19, 11:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 6001 FM 1105, Georgetown, Texas, with interment in Zion's cemetery at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow the service.
