Jeanne Stophlet, age 83, passed away on May 22, 2023. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Lawrence (John) and Marian Doran. Jeanne married Carl Stophlet Jr. on December 28, 1957. She is survived by children Cory (Janis) Stophlet, Gidget Breeden-Wall and Matthew (Anna) Stophlet, Grandchildren Crystal Leach and Michael Stophlet, Great-grandchildren Rose Metz, Gracie Leach and Sammie Byrd, and Great-Great grandson William Kinder. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Stophlet Jr., son's Mark, and Timothy Stophlet.
Jeanne Stophlet was not one to stay idle. Her life was all about volunteering. She was a Sunday school teacher for 35 years at United Methodist Church of Mount Healthy. She was a volunteer for the National Veterans Affairs Volunteer Services (VAVS) for 45 years helping in the care of military veterans that served in both World Wars, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War and was named Director of the VAVS in 1969. Her care and support of Veterans expanded to include the mothers of veterans deployed during war and, especially, for the mothers of veterans that were killed-in-action, wounded, missing-in-action and prisoners of war. Jeanne was the National President of Service Star Legion from about 1977 to 1996.
For thirty years, Jeanne was a Cultural Diversity Speaker with national exposure. She was a founder of the Cincinnati Diversity program. Her efforts to expand the program resulted in Diversity Training inclusion in Cincinnati Veterans Hospital, Fort Thomas Veterans Hospital, Cincinnati Police Department, Cincinnati Bell, as well as other Cincinnati and Kentucky based businesses and organizations.
Jeanne served as Chairman of the North American Indian Council of Greater Cincinnati and was one of the founding members of the Inter-Ethnic Council of Greater Cincinnati bringing together 150 ethnic organizations.
She received numerous awards over her adult life. In 1979, the Cincinnati Enquirer named Jeanne one of the ten "Women of the Year." In 1980 through 1994, the State of Kentucky awarded her the title of "Kentucky Colonel." The plaque on the Suspension Bridge between Cincinnati and Newport includes Jeanne's name as a Charter Member of the Bridge Commission. In 1988, she was saluted as one of the "200 Greater Cincinnatians' for Cincinnati's Bicentennial.
