Jeffrey Thomas Campbell, 65, passed away on August 29, 2024.
Jeffrey was the youngest child of parents, Robert and Dorothy Campbell. He was raised in Beacon, New York, and graduated from Beacon High School in 1976. Jeffrey pursued his Bachelor's in Music Education at the University of Michigan. It was there he met the love of his life, Lisa Johnson, as students at the School of Music. In 1980, Jeffrey graduated from U of M and in 1982 he received a Master's degree in Clarinet Performance from Morehead State University. Lisa and Jeffrey married in 1985, and their family was complete with the birth of their daughters, Alison and Margaret.
Music was woven through every part of Jeffrey's life. He was a music educator in Frankfort, KY, Waldorf, MD, Milan, MI and Pinckney, MI. He retired in 2022 after 40 years of teaching. During these years he taught high school and middle school bands and founded the Pinckney Community Schools string orchestra program, serving as the middle and high school orchestra director. As a dedicated educator and talented musician, he provided support and inspiration to all students he met. Over the years, he performed with and conducted many community bands and orchestras. Additionally, Jeffrey and Lisa enjoyed a lifetime of playing music together. He was honored to pass on that love and passion for music to his daughters.
Jeffrey will be remembered as a kind, fun-loving, and caring man with a big smile. He was loudly supportive and joyful for his daughters' achievements and endeavors. His family always knew he was there to support them as the loudest clapper in the audience or crowd. The love Jeffrey gave his family was unparalleled. He was so excited to now have the title of "Pop" after becoming a grandpa. Outside of music, Jeffrey was a huge sports fan, a lifelong New York Yankees follower, and a true Maize and Blue Wolverine. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis.
Jeffrey is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Lisa Johnson; his loving daughters, Alison (Bryant Smith) Campbell and Margaret Campbell; his adored grandchildren, Evan and Maeve; his sister-in-law, Florence Campbell; nephew, Darren Campbell; great-niece, Lily; and many extended family members, friends, colleagues, and cherished students.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Campbell and his older brother, Gary Campbell.
A memorial gathering will be held at Nie Funeral Home - 3767 W. Liberty Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48103 on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. A celebration of life will follow on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Nie Funeral Home. What a tragedy to lose this vibrant man so early. I recall him not only as a fine musician, warm and personable, and you enjoy being around, but first of all, as a loving family man. I enjoyed meeting with him during adjudicating music festivals in Michigan and sharing those events with great conversations and insights. Jeff once told me he pursued much of his his string instrument knowledge through attending his daughter's Suzuki violin lessons, which later inspired his creating an orchestra program in his area. His contributions in the music world will long remain memorable. My condolences to his loving family and all that knew him. -Dorothy McDonald

Jeff was a fellow artist, and a kind man. He always had a minute and friendly word. I would run into him at Kroger and he always left me with a smile. His passing is a sad loss to his family, friends and community.
