Obituary for Victoria Jerilyn Young
Victoria Jerilyn Young (Jerilyn Coleman) passed away on Friday, May 23rd, 2025, at her home in Layton, UT, peacefully with her daughter, son, and granddaughter by her side.
She was born on April 28th, 1946, to parents, Robert John Coleman and Perditia White in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was the first of three children. She eventual was joined by two brothers, Dick Coleman and Doug Coleman. She was always proud of her heritage and of being a great-great granddaughter of Phineas Howe Young, brother of Brigham Young.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family. She has four children, Michael T. Smith (Cary, NC), Sherilee Smith (Doug, Payson, UT,) Craig A. Smith, (Megan, Hooper, UT) and Andrea Baker (Salt Lake City, UT). She is grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren with 2 on the way.
She re-invented herself many times during her life. She graduated from Beauty School and was able to use her skills to open a Beauty Shop in her home in North Ogden, Utah.
She was very talented and creative. She owned an Import Yarn Store for a time, and taught many people the crafts of knitting and crocheting. She created designs and patterns that were included in the Vanessa-Ann collection.
Mid-life, she decided to go back to school and earned her Bachelor of Science in Social Work, from Weber State University. She excelled there and was then accepted to the University of Maryland at John's -Hopkins where she earned her Masters Degree in Social Work. While there she worked with the VA system helping veterans deal with addiction.
She spent the remaining time of her career working at various hospitals and clinics in Utah. She worked with clients who were transplant recipients and helped them and their families.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saintes and held many callings throughout the years.
She loved playing the piano, cooking, gardening and even took up downhill-skiing in her later life.
She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She often spoke of re-uniting with them.
The family sends heartfelt gratitude to those who have shared their condolences at this time.
She has chosen not to have a viewing or funeral. She will be interred at the Washington Heights Memorial Park in Ogden Utah.
