On April 19, 2024, around 9:30 PM, Jerry Combs passed away peacefully with his wife of 60 years (Carol Ann) by his side. He had been surrounded by his family (daughters Theresa with family friend Jess Bates), Kathy, son Jeff (with his partner Tracey Scott) and grandsons Matthew, Nathan and Nicholas in the days leading to his passing. However, it was a brief moment where Jerry was alone with his wife where he chose to depart. Jerry was born and raised in Newport, KY to his mother Emma and his father Bradley, along with his siblings Dorothy, Hayden, Margaret, Judy, and Bradley Jr. Jerry was a member of the Newport High School graduating class of 1958. He played on the football team as a linebacker and guard. The 1958 Newport Wildcats were the last Newport team to play for the state championship. He was particularly proud of a game he played against Western Hills High School where he registered 18 tackles against the Mustangs, who featured a fullback by the name of Pete Rose. After high school, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for 8 years. Jerry was a true outdoorsman. Whether it was through hunting, fishing, or playing golf, he truly enjoyed the outside air and just being among nature. On a personal level, Jerry was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was very proud of his Wife and family. To all those who had the opportunity to meet Jerry, he was instantly perceived as a friend. He had the ability to make others feel comfortable. This component of his personality was probably a good reason why he was successful as a salesman over the decades he worked in the selling of industrial hose, fittings, conveyor belts and other parts needed by many manufacturing companies. Jerry loved sports and was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals and most of all, the University of Kentucky Wildcats. Only a day within deer hunting season would cause him to miss a UK basketball game. Jerry was truly a man who was loved by many. He lived a very good life and will in no way be forgotten by those left behind who knew him and loved him. He will be missed by many, but mostly by his family, Wife, Carol Ann, Daughters Theresa Donohoe, Kathy McEntush, Son Jeff Combs and Grandsons Matthew Donohoe, Aaron McEntush, Nathan Combs, and Nicholas Combs. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial Contributions may be made to Parkinson Support and Wellness, 260 Stetson St., #2300, Cincinnati, OH 45219.
