Jerry Kissel, 89, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Golden Living Center Woodlands. He was born July 9, 1932 in Boonville, IN to the late Helen (Ellison) and Oscar Kissel.
Jerry graduated from Bosse High School in 1950 and Lain Tech with a degree in Engineering. He served in the US Army for two years during the Korean War. Upon his return from the war, Jerry went on a blind date with his future wife, Shirley, and they were married February 9, 1957. Three months after they were married, he accepted a job in Toledo, OH with Surface Combustion which became Midland-Ross Corporation. Jerry and Shirley moved to Florida where he worked for the Dept. of Transportation in the Cape Coral area as a Civil Engineer. He retired in 1991. Jerry and his wife enjoyed boating on the weekends with friends and also traveling to Europe, Hawaii and the islands around Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Dian (Sandefur) Kissel; brother, Sam (Janet) Kissel; nephews, Daniel (Hilary) Kissel and Rick (Chris) Kissel; great nieces and nephews, Sutton Kissel, Julia Kissel and Jackson Kissel; and his furry friend, Jazzy.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother and sister in law, Fred (Thelma) Kissel.
There will be no services at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vanderburgh Humane Society, 400 Millner Industrial Dr., Evansville, IN 47710 or any animal shelter of your choice.
