Jerry E. Morris, 81 years of age, entered eternal life quietly on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Cross Keys Village – the Brethren Home Community in New Oxford, PA. He was the loving husband of Mary Jane "Molly" Morris with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in York, he was the son of the late Robert and Vera (Wanner) Morris. He is also survived by his two children, M. Susan Williamson and husband Alex of Medina, OH, and Eric S. Morris and wife Heather of Phoenix, MD; five grandchildren, Ian and Ross Williamson and Ashley, Percy, and Delaney Morris; and a sister Marjorie M. Lowell of Elizabethtown, PA.
Jerry was a 1957 graduate of Woodbury High School, NJ. Following graduation, he earned a bachelor's degree from Elizabethtown College. After serving in the National Guard, he began a sales career with E.I. DuPont in Chicago, later moving to Sidney, Ohio for a marketing position with LeRoi Division, Westinghouse Air Brake, Co. In 1973, he moved to York to begin a 25-year career in marketing, advertising, and public relations, lastly as the Central Regional Sales Manager for P.H. Glatfelter Co., Spring Grove. He eased into retirement, working part-time for 3 years in sales for Atlantic Paper, Co., York.
In earlier days, Jerry served on the board of the Children's Home of York, the local Heart Association chapter, Glatfelter Memorial Library, and West York School Board acting as President. As a member of Wolf's Covenant Church, he served as an elder, President, and Vice-President of the board numerous times, as well as a choir member, Sunday School teacher of adults and teens, and was financial chairman of the Focus on the Future expansion and remodeling project. He also completed a 3-year term as a congregational representative to the East Coast Conference of the Covenant Church.
Jerry was a member of the downtown York Rotary Club, Elizabethtown College York Alumni Relations Committee, and was a life member of the Outdoor Country Club where he was an avid golfer and scored several holes-in-one.
Jerry was always a fan of all Philadelphia sports teams, having grown up across the river from that city. He was a year-round tennis player and runner. He liked to travel and also enjoyed many years of extended family vacations in Ocean City, NJ. He was always ready to engage in a lively discussion on politics or recent sporting events.
In retirement, Jerry enjoyed bicycling and gym workouts. He became a volunteer at the Harvest of Hope Food Pantry and gave 21 years of service as an escort greeter and any other requested volunteer job at WellSpan York Hospital. Of great enjoyment to Jerry were the 45 years of wonderful boating adventures with their good friends, the McCloskeys.
Despite his numerous outside obligations, Jerry was a family man at heart and always remained a wonderful source of support and love for his wife, children, and grandchildren. Jerry was known for his outgoing, caring, and fun-loving personality and his inability to speak toward the end of his life became a source of frustration for him and a sad loss to family and friends as well.
The family warmly thanks those at the Brookside Building who cared for Jerry with such understanding and loving kindness during his final years.
Jerry will be laid to rest in a private family service at Wolf's Church Cemetery under the direction of Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., of Spring Grove.
