Jerry Lincoln Penny, 94, passed away July 7, 2024, at Hock Family Pavilion.
Mr. Penny was born September 17, 1929, to the late Annie Mae Cole Penny and Julius Maynard Penny, Sr. in Durham, North Carolina. Jerry was a lifelong resident of Durham. He was in the real estate and loan business for the majority of his life and helped many people along the way. Due to his generous and loving nature he did not expect this kindness to be repaid. He loved being able to go to the beach and going out on his boat fishing. Jerry was a devoted and beloved father to his children.
In addition to his parents, Jerry is also predeceased by a daughter, Karen Lynn Penny; brother, Julius M. Penny, Jr. and sister, Sybil Penny. Jerry is survived by his wife, Marjorie Anne Dean Penny; sons, Jerry “Michael” Penny, Jeremy Adam Richard and David Allen Richard all of Durham; daughter, Cynthia Penny of Oxford and Grandchildren, Rocco DiGirolamo, Jackson DiGirolamo, Imogen Wyatt and Jaslynn Renee Glenn-Richard.
A funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Hudson Funeral Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour prior from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev Hugh O’Shields. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Chapel of Hope Mausoleum.
Flowers are acceptable.
