On August 8th, 2025, Jerry Rumsey of Spokane passed away peacefully in his sleep. Jerry was born in Corning CA December 10th, 1942, to the parents of Norman and Ella Rumsey but Spokane was home for over 57 years.

Jerry was a man of service. He started his journey in Spokane at Fairchild Airforce Base. While stationed there, he met his future wife, Fran Coppinger. They were married a few months later on April 4th, 1966. Within days, Jerry was sent to Vietnam for a 1-year term. Upon his return he left the AirForce, and they moved back to CA. That didn't last long, Spokane was courting him back.

During his years here they lived in several homes, settling finally in north Spokane. Jerry tried several jobs but found his calling with the Spokane fire department. Fire Station #10, #13, #2 and #17 were served by him. He served 3/3/70 to 12/29/04 from local 29. He retired, from station #17.

Before and after retirement Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and archery. Any outdoor activity interested him. He would spend most of the summer at the cabin at Deer Lake with Fran, his children, Grandchildren, extended family and friends. He worked on remodeling the cabin twice.

Always being service minded, Jerry was a member of the Eagles, VFW, and supported American Wounded Warrior Project.

He was a rare adult who enjoyed being with children, teaching and entertaining them. In his later years, you might find Jerry in his comfortable chair watching "Cop Shows" on Reelz Tv or listening to solid gold oldies. His very favorite artist was Elvis Presley.

In Spokane, Jerry is survived by wife Fran, Daughter Christy Murphy (Brian) and grandsons Braedan and Brennan. Son Jeffrey Rumsey (Georgia) and grandchildren Ella and Zander Rumsey and Kierstin Loosier. Paloma Macario mother of Ella and Zander. LeAnne Mauer niece by marriage. Surviving brother Ken Rumsey still lives in CA as well as two nieces.

Jerry was always accompanied by his faithful sidekick Blaze his labrador retriever.

No service will be held. In his memory, and to honor him and his band of brothers first responders, please reverently remember their service as a firetruck passes. Be of service yourself. Do a kindness for a friend or stranger. Make someone smile.
