JERRY VAUGHAN WILLIAMS, age 76, of Winchester, Tenn., departed this life on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving daughter and other family members following an extended illness. He had fought a strong battle against cancer for over ten years. Jerry was born on March 2, 1946, to the late Tally Edward Williams, Sr. and Louise Faris Williams and spent his life in Williams Cove in Franklin County, Tenn. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, farming and spending time with his daughter and granddaughters.
In his early years, he helped on the family farm and at the age of 6 learned to drive a little red tractor. As an adult, he drove a school bus. He was also employed in the Huntsville, Ala. area and the State of Ohio as a welder. When he was in his early 30's, he started working for the U.S. Postal Service and retired after 42 years of faithful service. During all of these years, he continued to farm and raise his daughter. He was a loving and dedicated father and grandfather. He attended many, many sporting events over the years, watching his daughter and granddaughters play.
He could sing like Mel Tillis and thought himself quite the Troubadour. He loved to aggravate the ladies and always requested kisses if he thought he might get one. Jerry was quite a comical character. In his later years, his great nieces thought he looked like Santa Clause with his white beard.
Jerry will be remembered as someone who always helped his friends and family. He was also one to give nicknames to anyone deserving his rhetorical, sharp wit, especially his nieces and nephews. He was also a man that was unbothered by what others thought of him.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Lindsey Renee Williams France and her husband, Robbie "Sir Robert" of Petersburg, Tenn. and their beautiful daughters; Ellison Gray "Ellie Gray" and Emery Payton "Emery P." France. He is also survived by 9 siblings; Brothers; Tally Williams, Jr., Joe Ed Williams, and Frank E. Williams; Sisters; Bobbye Stoolefire and husband, Art, Emma Sandberg and husband, Earl, Joyce Moore and husband Chad, Peggy Smithson and husband, Jack, Linda Vaughan and husband, Kenneth, and Doris Eldridge. He is also survived by a host of Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and many, many friends.
Visitation for Jerry will be held from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 9, in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services. A private graveside service is scheduled for interment in the Goshen Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Winchester.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Goshen Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund. c/o P.O. Box 881, Winchester, TN 37398
