Jesse Alvarez, age 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on the morning of Wednesday, May 11th, in The Woodlands, Texas. Jesse was a man of strong faith who valued honesty and integrity. Above all else Jesse was truly compassionate. During his short and fierce battle with cancer, Jesse unselfishly continued to display his love for family, friends, and business associates without regard for what he was experiencing.
Jesse was born February 24, 1951, in Hammond, Indiana and soon became a lifelong, die hard Chicago Cubs fan. Jesse left the area with family and settled south in McAllen, Texas where he married his loving wife of forty-two years on May 9, 1980.
Jesse and Cheryl proclaimed their vows under the ebony trees in the Rio Grande Valley and grew their family over the next few years, having two daughters. Jesse was a dynamic soul and always looked for new experiences to create opportunities for his family. His tenacity resulted in career advancement in the auto industry, thus relocating to The Woodlands, where the family has resided since 1984.
Jesse's legacy includes a very successful forty-five year journey in the automobile industry. He was a mentor and leader who always enjoyed the hustle. Jesse was a natural salesman and teacher with a knack for developing relationships with people both in and out of the industry. Jesse moved quickly from sales to management, where he spent most of his career. In 2017, after retirement, his dream of entrepreneurship came true when he founded Texas Truck Liquidators, LLC. He was the self-proclaimed "El Presidente" and was immensely proud of his accomplishment in the commercial vehicle industry. Jesse would want to express gratitude to all those who participated in his vision. He was truly thankful for your friendship, your partnership, your loyalty, and he loved working with you every day.
Jesse embraced life to the fullest. He never met a stranger and had a personality that was larger than life. He embodied the Texas A&M Aggie Spirit and was proud to bleed maroon. Jesse was an incredibly generous man with a heart to serve his community and felt honored to be a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and Rotary Club of The Woodlands where he was the recipient of the Paul Harris Award. Rotary President Theresa Wagaman describes Jesse as "always having a twinkle in his eye, a smile on his face and laughter that was so contagious everyone wanted to be a part of the fun conversation." She goes on to describe a man who was a gem, mentor, and friend.
Jesse is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Cheryl Alvarez, his daughters and their families; Melissa (Ben) Roberson; Sarah (Josh) Cotton and his grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Mike, sister Maxine "Max", and Aunt Carolyn among numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Julia "Julie", father Jose "Joe", and sisters Aurelia "Auri" and Flora May "Flo".
His legacy is that of generosity and perseverance. He will be deeply missed, and in the infamous words of Jesse for those that knew him, he would like to say, "Thanks, and Gig 'em."
