On Saturday, April 8, 2023, Jim Stoddard lost his years' long battle with squamous cell cancer.
Jim was born on 11/10/1942 in Indianapolis, and moved with his family to West Palm Beach FL when he was 2. After graduating from Forest Hills High School he enlisted in the US Army and volunteered for Green Beret training. As a Green Beret Jim served in Vietnam from 1962-65. After being Honorably Discharged Jim enrolled in Florida Atlantic University, where he was involved with Veteran student groups and earned a BS in Construction Management and an MBA. After graduating Jim worked as a project manager/civil engineer for various large construction projects.
In 1979 Jim moved to Aurora, CO where he raised stepsons Ken, Scott and Brett Isackson. After working at Stearns Catalytic for several years Jim returned to self-employed construction project management and real estate. In 1992 Jim began working as an independent civil engineer/project manager for projects throughout the US. In 1994 he settled in Ft Collins, CO where he met Linda, the love of his life. They married in 1995 and for the next 28 years they enjoyed riding Harleys, camping, traveling and tailgating in their RVs, and boating and fishing in Horsetooth Reservoir.
In 1999 Jim became a civil engineer/ project manager at CSU where he remodeled and built many buildings, including the remodel of the Hughes Stadium. Jim retired from CSU in 2014, and when he wasn't riding or traveling he enjoyed "front porch sittin'' with his dogs.
Jim was a proud 30 year member of the Special Forces Association and the Special Operations Association.
Survivors include his older brother Chuck Stoddard (Judie) and his sister-in-law Patricia Sheden (Daniel Budd). He was happy to be reunited with the Isacksons, Ken (Diania), Scott (Judy) and Brett. Jim was always proud of Linda's daughter, Lee Lucas (Raoul Maes) and her children, Brooks Fisher and Emma Lucas. Although estranged from Scott Lucas, Ali, Bryce and Connor Lucas all remained in his thoughts. Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Kennedy.
Jim will be missed by many good friends in the SFA/SOG and Wellington communities. His love and life lessons will always be cherished by his extended family. Jim will continue to be loved by his wife, Linda, who will hold him in her heart forever.
Because he didn't want to miss his last party, Jim's wake was held at Sparge Brewery on March 20, 2023 where he was able to say goodbye to many of those important to him. On Thursday, April 13, there will be a private family viewing and farewell at Goes Funeral Home following which Jim will be transported to Highland Cemetery for a 1:00 PM graveside service open to the public. Immediately after the graveside service there will be a reception for friends and family at the Stoddard's home (8195 Wapiti Dr).
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Spargetoberfest Foundation at Meridian Trust Federal Credit Union to benefit Wellington youth, families, and veterans.
