Jimmie Louise (Hartman) McNulty departed this earth on March 26, 2023, leaving a legacy of lives ever changed by her kindness. Born on October 3, 1923 to Bernard A. and Ruth Snyder Hartman, she was the older sister of Margo, with whom she shared a special lifelong friendship. Jimmie married her forever love, Charles R. "Mac" McNulty on May 29, 1954. Together they raised four sons, Dennis, Robin, Jon, and Tom. They were devoted to the Finneytown Schools in their roles as educators for over 25 years. Jimmie was known for running a tight ship in her kindergarten classrooms – a perfect mix of discipline and kindness that brought out the best in her students and elicited many requests from parents for their children to be placed in Mrs. McNulty's class.
Jimmie (and Mac) stayed in touch with many of their students throughout their lives. She sincerely cared for each and every one, remembering not only their name, but also the names of their parents and siblings, and their unique personality. It was not uncommon for her to receive visits, letters, and calls from her former students up until her final days, and it always brought her great joy.
Her love of family was evident to all. As matriarch of the McNulty family, she kept tabs on everybody's activities – children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Without fail, every birthday was marked by a card in the mailbox with her familiar, perfect "teacher" handwriting. The beloved family home on Cherry Blossom Lane hosted decades of family holiday gatherings including many laughs and treasured memories. Her cookies and Jell-O cake were legendary. She also enjoyed family trips to visit her sister Margo and family in Cleveland, reunions with Hartman cousins in Tennessee, and McNulty family trips to Gatlinburg and Brown County, Indiana.
With an energy that amazed us all, Jimmie remained active as part of multiple bridge clubs – playing up until the ripe young age of 98. She was an avid knitter, gracing every grandchild and great-grandchild (and many others) with beautiful handmade blankets, as well as donating prayer shawls with the Northminster Presbyterian Prayer Shawl Knitters. She was an office volunteer at Northminster and a member of the Finneytown Women's Club. Always sharp, she was a whiz with crossword puzzles and an avid reader, often giving book reviews and recommendations to family and friends.
She was the beloved mother of Dennis (Penny) McNulty, Robin (Melanie) McNulty, Jon (Susan) McNulty, and Tom (Christine)McNulty. Grandmother of Melissa (Jeff) Daniels, Michael (Marisa Rivero) McNulty, Ryan McNulty, Jennifer (Drew) Dinan, Lauren (Jordan) Cory, Brad (Kristy) McNulty, Kate (Brandon) Martin, and Ben (Cassie Genc) McNulty. Great-Grandmother to Taylor Daniels, William Daniels, Elina McNulty, Dean Dinan, and Harper McNulty. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles, sister, Margo (Bill) McCormick and parents Bernard A. and Ruth Snyder Hartman.
She was the epitome of a life well lived – she cared deeply and generously – her family, students, and friends all benefitted from this love. Her legacy lives on in each of us that had the great blessing to know her.
Memorial gifts can be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church at www.northminsterchurch.org.
