Canandaigua – Jo-Ann E. Blanco-Russell, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, with her family by her side. She is survived by two children, Roann (Nicholas) Arbore and Lisa (Michael) Zillioux; stepdaughter, Cynthia (Charles) Weissend; six grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Bluett, Michael (Heather) Arbore, Meghan (Chris) Kwaczala, Alexa (Ryan) DeSain, Sara Lewis and Jeff Weissend; five great-grandchildren, Sophia, Gabriella, Audra, Xander and Elizabeth; sister, Marie Potter; brother, David (Patti) Simbueski; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Linwood C. Russell in 2023; and three siblings, Bernice Blanco, Richard Caccamise and Eileen Shortt.
Jo-Ann was born in Newark, NY and was the daughter of William and Evva (McClain) Moag. She was a graduate of East High School. Jo-Ann earned an associates degree from FLCC. She was a medical transcriptionist at FF Thompson for many years and was the former secretary at the First United Methodist Church in Canandaigua, from where she retired. Jo-Ann was very proud of her Native American heritage. She attended St. Mary's Church.
Jo-Ann enjoyed hiking, snowshoeing, gardening, reading, painting, making Native American beads and spending time with family and friends.
The family will celebrate her life privately. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation, 12151 Avenue of the Chiefs, Crazy Horse, SD, 57730-8900. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., Canandaigua. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.
