Joan Ruth Cooper, 93, of Jasper, Indiana, died on August 26, 2025. Born on June 24, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, Joan was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and caring friend. Joan is survived by her son John Cooper (Jennifer) of Atlanta, Georgia (granddaughters, Emily Hale (Connor), Mimi Cooper, and Janie Cooper), his daughter Elisabeth Luff (Mark) of Velpen, Indiana (granddaughters, Catherine Brower (Greg), Marie Bland (Ivan), Lauren Baker (Nicholas), and Rebekah Luff, and great-grandchildren Garrett and Isabelle Brower and Marcus Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years Donald T. Cooper and daughter Anne Marie Cooper of Evansville. Joan graduated from the University of Detroit in 1954 with a degree in English. Following her education, she taught grade school (2nd grade) before devoting her life to her children and multiple volunteer activities. Joan was fundamental in establishing Pregnancy Aid of Detroit which has offered peri-natal and newborn assistance for over fifty years. She was active in Right to Life. Additionally, Joan was a coordinator for WNIN's Radio Reading Service which provided on air reading of newspapers and magazines through special radio receivers. Joan enjoyed playing bridge, crossword puzzles, cooking, sewing, painting, photography, helping others, and the company of her family, friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A long-time parishioner at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Joan found solace and community in her strong Catholic faith and was a recipient of the Brute Award in recognition of her commitment to living a life of Christian stewardship. A viewing is scheduled for Friday, September 5, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM CST at Pierre Funeral Home, located at 2601 W Franklin St, Evansville. A funeral mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Saturday, September 6, at 10:00 AM CST, Rev. Luke Hassler officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her daughter and husband. In lieu of flowers, please donate on Joan's behalf to Corpus Christi Catholic Church or St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana. Condolences may be made online at www.pierrefuneralhome.com.
