Joan Haueter Jockell

Joan Haueter Jockell entered into eternal rest on February 22, 2025 at the age of 94. She was a devout Catholic and we can take comfort in knowing that Joan is at peace in the loving arms of the Lord.
Born to Violet Klein and Joseph Emmett Haueter on August 23, 1930 in Louisville, Joan was a 1948 graduate of Shawnee High School. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling the world. With the "luck of the Irish" in her blood, Joan could often be found at a casino or bingo hall when not playing a great hand of bridge.
A "Grammy" to all, Joan always had a kind word and a piece of candy for everyone. Her faith, love, and patriotism were evident in all her acts of compassionate service which included sponsoring youth athletic teams, serving as a member of the LMPD Citizens Police Academy Alumni, and volunteering at the Kentucky Air National Guard.
Joan was a parishioner at St. Athanasius and St. Bartholomew Catholic Churches. She sang in the choir for many years, served on the Stewardship Committee, and baked countless cakes for Church picnics.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Karl G. Jockell, Jr., and siblings: Joseph, Ava, Thomas, Gerald, and Mary Lynette. Left to cherish her memory are children, Karl G. Jockell III (Lynn Wright) and Sherrin J. Williams; grandchildren, Matthew T. Williams (Katie) and Lt Col Michelle R. Williams; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Alex; sisters, Carole Ray and Jan Church (Tom); and many extended family members and friends... all of whom she loved to the moon and back!
A Mass in celebration of Joan's life will be at 11 AM on February 26, 2025 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 5505 Bardstown Rd. Visitation will be held from 9 AM until 11 AM at the Church. Family and friends are invited to gather at St. Gabriel Loft following the Mass for lunch. Private interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
