Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holloway Funeral Home - Salisbury on Jun. 4, 2025.
Joan Evans Phillips passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, in
Salisbury, Maryland, the city where she was born on May 17, 1941. She was the beloved daughter of the late John and Edith Evans of Chincoteague, Virginia.
A proud graduate of Wicomico High School, Class of 1959, Joan built a fulfilling career as a highly respected Administrative Assistant. She worked for many years at George, Miles & Buhr, where she was admired for her professionalism and diligence, and later at Plummer and Associates, where her skills and dedication were deeply valued.
Joan was also a devoted volunteer, generously offering her time and talents to the Ward Foundation's World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition. Serving for many years on the organizational committee, she excelled at bringing people together in support of art, tradition, and community.
In recent years, Joan's physical limitations prevented her from regularly attending Emmanuel Baptist Church, but her faith remained a steady and comforting presence in her life. She drew strength and peace from watching Sunday services online and never wavered in her belief.
Those who knew Joan would describe her as faith-filled, spirited, and resilient. She faced life's challenges head-on-with determination, grace, and a prayer in her heart. Her pride and joy was her son, Tom, and her love for him was unwavering. She was also immensely proud of her grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to share their accomplishments with others.
Joan found joy in life's simple pleasures-spending quiet afternoons with a Find-A-Word book, enjoying her favorite shows on the Game Show Network, or watching birds and squirrels at her window feeder. Her appreciation for small, everyday moments and her gentle presence endeared her to all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted son, Tom Taylor; her cherished daughter-in-law, Tracey Taylor; and her beloved grandchildren: Thomas Taylor and his wife Laura; Rachel Taylor and her partner Alex Peck; and Jake Gordy and his partner Grace Bounds. Joan's memory will also be lovingly carried by her closest friends-Connie Welch, Trish Greene, and Nancy Lambert-whom she considered her extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Phillips; her twin brother, John Evans Jr.; and her former daughter-in-law, Joyce Conner Taylor.
Joan's story does not end with her passing, but continues with the cherished memories she leaves behind. We celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with grace. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
A funeral service will be held Sunday June 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 501 Snow Hill Road. Friends and family are invited to visit one hour prior. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Parsons Cemetery in
