LUCEY Joann (née Elsis), age 75, of River Edge, passed away on January 5, 2024. She is now reunited with her cherished husband, Jackie, and her "little" brother Joe. Joann was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Joseph and Dorothy Elsis. She moved to New Jersey in 1980 with Jackie and their young family, ultimately settling in River Edge in a two-family house with Robert and Ann Lucey, to start the next chapter of their life together in the suburbs.
Joann was so easy to love, and will be remembered by all for her unique sense of humor, genuine heart, and constant thoughtfulness. Having lost her own mother at a very young age, she took great pleasure in raising her family and experiencing all the little things, especially birthday and holiday celebrations, family vacations to the Catskills and Lake George, and daily check-ins. Her greatest joy in her later years was as Grandma and Great-Aunt Joann.
Joann leaves behind her four devoted children: John, wife Lori (née Torino), children Joey and Michael, of Westwood; Jimmy, life partner Christine Obertlik, child Molly Obertlik, of Marlboro; Jason, wife Jemi (née Goulian), children Makayla and Fiona, of Oradell; and Jeanine, significant other Paul Bossack, of River Edge. Joann also leaves behind countless family and friends, including many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews, and nieces, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Family will receive friends at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Rd., Oradell, Tuesday, 4-8 PM. Funeral Mass Wednesday 10:00 AM at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church in River Edge. Interment is at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery in Paramus.
In lieu of floral tributes, donations in Joann's memory are requested to the LuceyDuganWatkins Charity, 301 Baldwin Ave, New Milford, NJ 07646; PayPal [email protected]. The LuceyDuganWatkins Charity has been supporting local families and causes in need since its inception, and was very near to Joann's heart.
