Joe J. Ortiz, 49, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, NM. passed away on April 2, 2025, from a sudden illness. Another angel has gained their wings. Joe was born December 6, 1975, in Las Vegas, NM.
Joe graduated from West Las Vegas High School. His hobbies included drawing paños, cooking, fishing and being outdoors. Some of Joe's favorite memories came from fishing and camping with his Grampo Apolonio and Uncle Paul. Joe enjoyed watching football games and was a Kansas City Chiefs fan. Joe worked as a cook in numerous restaurants. Joe was a kind and loving soul, who always had a smile on his face and was always willing to give a helping hand to someone in need.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Apolonio and Beatrice Ortiz who helped raise him.
He is survived by his mother Martha Ortiz, and his sons Jose Ortiz and Joshua Ortiz of Las Vegas, N.M. He is survived by his special aunt Mary Rose Ortiz and by his special cousin Ashley Ortiz who he was raised with and called, sister. Joe is also survived by his uncles and aunts Nick and Mary Alice Ortiz and family, Ralph and Rebecca Ortiz and family, Paul Ortiz and family, Jenny and Raymond Chavez, and numerous cousins and friends. He is also survived by his father Cipriano Ruiz and family of Las Vegas, N.M.
A rosary service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, N.M. The rosary will be recited by Los Hermanos de Nuestro Padre Jesus. Immediately following the rosary, a funeral mass will be held. Presiding over the mass will be Father Rob Yaksich. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas, NM with the following serving as pallbearers: Joseph Ortiz, Paul Matthew Ortiz, Teresa Ortiz, Jacob Knezevich, Henry Flores, and Cipriano Flores. Honorary pallbearers will be his uncles, Nick Ortiz, Paul Ortiz, Ralph Ortiz, and Raymond Chavez.
