About
John Deakins Obituary
As John Deakins often said, he wasn't born in Texas but he got there as fast as he could. He enjoyed close to 40 years working with his industrial engineering expertise, running his own business and consulting to a variety of oil and gas companies. In 1989 he met Emily Hamlin, the love of his life, and married her in 1994. John and Emily had one daughter, Isabel, the other love of his life. In his retirement years, he spent many an hour on the golf courses of Houston, enjoying the friendships and the (occasional) good shots!
In 2023, John and Emily moved to Lookout Mountain, where he thoroughly enjoyed living closer to family and his former McCallie and Georgia Tech friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents John Allen Deakins Sr and Peggy Hall Deakins, sister Stella Ruth Raymer, and brother-in-law Jim Reilly. He is survived by his wife Emily H Deakins, daughter Isabel H Deakins, sister Debbie Reilly, brother-in-law Tom Raymer, nephew Steven (Elizabeth) Forrester, niece Katie Scarborough, nephew Jordan (Amanda) Scarborough, grand nephews Jack, Walker, and Beau Forrester.
Special thank you to John's medical teams in both Chattanooga and Houston, particularly Dr. Guillermo Montalban-Bravo and the MD Anderson team.
Private celebrations of life will be held on Lookout Mountain and in Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, the McCallie School, or your local blood donation center.
