John DiPaola Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial on Dec. 29, 2025.
John G. DiPaola, of Berkeley Heights, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, at the age of 79, after bravely battling glioblastoma for the past seven months.
Born in Nuremberg, Germany, John moved to Queens, New York with his parents in 1948. He attended Stuyvesant High School in New York City and graduated at the young age of 16. He was a proud American, who served his country honorably in the US Army after being drafted at the age of 18 and stationed in South Korea. After returning home in 1968, he began his long and successful career on Wall Street. He retired from Citi in 2010.
Wall Street is also where John met his bride, Janet. Married for over 49 years, they settled initially in Long Island, NY. John is also the loving father of Lisa-Marie Kostrowski and her husband Eric and Christopher DiPaola and his wife Dana. John and Janet followed their children to New Jersey in 2012 to be close to their cherished grandchildren Brady, Casey and Ellie Kostrowski and Ryan, Madelyn, Emerson and Wyatt DiPaola. John was a resident of Berkeley Heights, NJ for the past 8 years.
John enjoyed running, golf, Guiness and most of all his grandchildren. Weekends were spent following them around to baseball, hockey and soccer games. John also was a life-long fan of the NY Jets, NY Mets and NY Rangers. He loved nothing more than attending NY Mets Spring Training in Florida with his brothers-in-law and nephews, and eventually with his grandsons.
John was pre-deceased by his parents, John and Rose DiPaola and his sister Rosalie DiPaola Reisberg.
Visiting will be held in Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights, NJ on Thursday, January 1, 2026 from 3-7 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held in St. James Church, 184 S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ on Friday, January 2, 2026 at 11 AM. Interment to follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Chatham, NJ.
