John Ergen passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024. He was born February 19, 1949 In Oak
Ridge, Tennessee to William and Viola Ergen. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School in1967 and
attended the University of Tennessee where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. After
graduating from UT he served in the Peace Corps for 2 years in Carriacou, West Indies. When he
returned to the United States he had careers in teaching, nuclear power education working for ORAU
and nuclear energy with Toledo Edison Nuclear Power Company. He moved to New York where he
received his MBA from Pace University in 1990 and then had a career in finance. He loved to travel, and
he was a marathon runner. He was a Rotarian and especially enjoyed being a member of a sports club
that had group events of skiing, hiking and rock climbing. He remained in New York until this year when
he moved back to Tennessee.
He is survived by his siblings Anne (Dan) DeLozier, Fred (Maribeth) Ergen, Charlie (Candy) Ergen, and
Mary (Chris) Taylor. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Marit DeLozier, Ben
(Whitney)DeLozier, Will DeLozier, William (Elizabeth) Ergen, John(Amanda) Ergen, Tom( Kiersten) Ergen,
Elise (Conner) Taylor, Katie (Riley) Flynn, Chris Ergen, Chase Ergen, Kerry (Kevin) Murray, Courtney
Ergen, Logan (Sarah) Taylor, Mason Taylor and Juliana Taylor and numerous great nieces and great
nephews.
A funeral service will be held at St. Stephens Episcopal Church at 10 am on Dec. 21, 2024. Visitation with
family will be before the service starting at 9 am. A private burial will be after the service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church 212 N. Tulane Ave. Oak
Ridge, Tennessee 37830 or to the charity of your choice.
