It is with great sadness that the family of John Gilbert Frauenheim "Jack", Ph.D. (86) announce his passing on Monday, June 3, 2024 in Troy, Michigan.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 30 years, Linda Frauenheim and his beloved brother Joseph A. Frauenheim, Jr.
Jack was loved by many in the community, but none more than his family. Jack is survived by his children with former wife, Nancy Frauenheim: Lisa (John) Felice, Michael (David) Frauenheim, David (Julie) Frauenheim, Peter (Denise) Frauenheim; and Ed (Jodie) Schemansky, Beth (Forest) Quattro, Christine (Danny) Skrezec; Grandchildren: Christopher, Michael, Joseph, Jackson, William, Anna, Reese, Easton, and Adia; Anthony, Andrew, Jordan. Great grandchildren: Dempsey and John. Sister-In-Law: Sandra Frauenheim.
Jack was born on March 18, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph and Pearl Frauenheim.
Jack is a graduate of Wayne State University with a doctorate degree in clinical psychology with a special education certification in learning disabilities.
Dr. Frauenheim began his career at Hawthorne Center in Northville, Michigan where he remained for more than 15 years.
Prior to joining Beaumont Hospital, Jack was the Associate Director of Special Education for Livonia Public Schools.
Dr. Frauenheim worked at Beaumont Hospital for more than 30 years ultimately serving as the Director of the Center for Human Development until his retirement.
In this role he was responsible for expanding the center to include an extension office in Grosse Pointe. He was a pioneer in the understanding and management of dyslexia. He taught graduate courses in learning disabilities at Oakland University and actively served on boards and professional organizations related to human development.
He had great passion and pride for his career and life's work and he paved a path for success for many people living with dyslexia and other learning disabilities.
He had a beautiful life with Linda and he found joy in his family, grandchildren, friends and neighbors.
He lived a life of grace and dignity and had a mischievous sense of humor and a great curiosity for life.
He loved reading and following current events.
He found peace in his home and caring for his yard.
Some of his favorite pass times were sitting on his deck overlooking the pond or enjoying time on his front porch feeding the birds and taming the chipmunks.
Jack will be remembered for his impact on the learning community and his passion for his family. He was a loving, kind and supportive Husband, Father, Grandpa and friend.
Please join us as we gather to honor and celebrate the life of John Gilbert Frauenheim "Jack" on Sunday, July 28th at 1:00p.m. at Steven Lelli's Inn On the Green, 27925 Golf Pointe Blvd, Farmington Hills.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Michigan Dyslexia Institute.
