John Richard Gargett

John Richard Gargett, age 58, loving husband, father, brother, son, and Opa, passed away in his sleep after a long battle with cancer on November 7, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.
John was preceded in death by his father, Richard. He is survived by his wife, Lisa; mother, Mary Lou; brother, Matthew (Jane); children, Wesley (Chelsi) Sharpe, Jordan (Sierra) Sharpe, and Issy Covel; grandson, Cassidy Sharpe; and niece, Brennan.
John was an intelligent man who loved building and repairing technology, leading him to a 22-year career with the Lansing State Journal. His hobbies included creating gadgets, photography, riding his trike, collecting gargoyles, and walks in the woods. He was always ready to go camping. Anywhere with trees, movie nights with his beloved wife, and game nights with his children and grandson were among his favorite places to be. John lived a life full of love and a thirst for knowledge.
He often spoke fondly of his memory of pizza nights with his mother and father. We will all remember his infectious smile, wit, and the lessons he taught us. Among them, to love ourselves with quiet dignity; to not put off your dreams, because there may not be a second chance; and to trust your gut, even when others don't. John will live forever in our hearts.
The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 12:00 PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel with Rev. Joseph Spackman officiating. Interment will follow in Delta Center Cemetery. Visitation will begin at the funeral home Tuesday at 11:00 AM.
