John "Bill" Gerecke, 90, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away on Monday September 2, 2024 at Miller's Merry Manor, New Carlisle. He was born on December 4, 1933, in South Bend, to the late Martin and Daisy (McLaughlin) Gerecke. On June 30, 1956, he married June Swanson, who preceded him in death on October 17, 2017. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jay Gerecke, a grandson, Eric Weber and a brother, Richard Gerecke. Bill is survived by his daughter, Jan Roesner of New Carlisle, his grandson, Ryan (Ashley) Weber of New Carlisle, two great-grandsons, Brooks and Mac Weber and a special friend, Pat Teeter of Donnell Lake, MI. Mr. Gerecke worked as an Electrician for U.S. Steel for five years and then for Bendix for 28 years, before retiring in 1986. Bill graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1952 and was a United States Army Veteran of the 101st Airborne and a Paratrooper from 1956-1958. He was a member of the American Legion Post #297, New Carlisle and a part owner of the Birch Tree Golf Course for 7 years. He loved to golf and bowl and would organize golfing trips to Biloxi, MS with his friends for many years. His family was his pride and joy and he will be greatly missed! A memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT Friday September 6, 2024 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert Street, New Carlisle. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. EDT Friday September 6, in the funeral home, with burial to follow in New Carlisle Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
