John Gideon Hogdahl, 72, longtime resident of Lakeside Township, WI, died on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in his home at Tradewinds Residence, Superior, WI. John was born in Superior on February 28, 1953, to Gideon and Mabel (Knudson) Hogdahl.
John was raised on a farm in South Range, WI along with sisters Jill and Eileen. John graduated from Northwestern High School of Maple, WI in 1971. In his younger years, John enjoyed playing the guitar and riding his motorcycle. In his later years he enjoyed listening to Christian radio, attending bluegrass gospel jams, and attending services at Faith Methodist Church. John's friends and staff at Tradewinds describe John as being a quiet guy, polite, thoughtful of others, kind, and helpful.
John was preceded in death by his father, Gideon, in 2005 and his mother, Mabel, on March 29, 2025.
John is survived by his sisters, Eileen (Rick) Sugars, Lakewood Township, MN, and Jill (Toby) Ellsworth, North St. Paul, MN; niece Jennifer (Bryan) Van Den Bosch, Minneapolis, MN; cousins: Beth (Larry) VanEmelen, Judi (Guy) Pippin, Kathy (Glenn) Jason, Margie (Warren) Smith, Carol (Larry) Taipale, Lois Pitzele, Tom Knudson, Phill (Ami) Knudson, Don (Candy) Knudson, and Carl Knudson.
Funeral services will be held jointly for Mabel and her son John on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Lakeside Baptist Church, 3176 S. Middle River Rd, South Range, WI 54874. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM followed by 11:00 AM service. Bring your bluegrass instruments for a gospel jam at 1:00 PM.
The family is grateful to the staff at Tradewinds Residence, Human Development Center, and all the caregivers at Essentia Health for their kindness, concern, and care of John over the years.
