John Thomas Lackey, Jr., 91 of Gainesville passed away Sunday September 14, 2025, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center-Gainesville.

Graveside services will be held Thursday September 18, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Earl Pirkle will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home.

John grew up in Gainesville, Georgia. He graduated from Gainesville High School and is a graduate from the University of Georgia. John was a Korean War Veteran serving in the Navy from 1952-1957. He was the 1966 Gainesville Jaycees Young Man of the Year and 1967-68 State President of the Georgia Jaycees. John was a career banker working at Home Federal Savings & Loan and retiring from Suntrust/Truist Bank.

John was a member of Central Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon for several years. He was recently inducted at the 2025 Gainesville Athletics Hall of Fame Awards as a member of the 1949 GHS State Championship baseball team. John never knew a stranger! Even at 91, he loved driving to breakfast each morning to visit his friends at Longstreet Café. John was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and loved to talk about the Dawgs!

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and David Johnston, Athens, Ga., son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Bob) M. Lackey and Nicky Lackey, Murrayville, Ga., grandchildren, Matthew Ruff, Lauren Quaife, Jessica Rodriguez, Ashley Pitts, 8 great grandchildren also survive. Sister, Diane McKinney, Murfreesboro, TN, sister-in-law, Martha Lipscomb, Gainesville, GA, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mildred and J.L. Britt, Roswell, GA. a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Lackey is preceded in death by his wife, Sidney Ramsey Lackey.
