John B. Lampi, 57, Wild Spirit, Adventurer, and Friend to All

FITCHBURG - With heavy hearts and a smile (because that’s exactly what John would’ve wanted), we announce the passing of John B. Lampi, age 57, on August 20, 2025, after a long battle with diabetes and chronic kidney disease. Known for his untamed spirit, mischief, unforgettable blue eyes, and appetite that could decimate any buffet in sight, John’s presence was unforgettable…often leaving behind a trail of crumbs and, more than once, singed eyebrows.

When it came to food, John was a proud member of the Clean Plate Club. Buffets, dinners, Christmas cookies…if it was on the table, it was as good as gone once John set his sights on it. No buffet was safe from John’s voracious appetite, and Christmas cookies were no exception. His appetite was legendary, but it wasn’t just about the food. It was about the joy of sharing those moments with friends and family and creating memories that would last long after the last crumb was eaten.

John was a master of mischief…a man whose pranks were as legendary as his love for playing with fire. Whether it was sneaking out at the beach, lighting sparklers on a Tuesday just to see what would happen, or playing “tricks” with fireworks that left us all holding our breath, John knew how to keep things interesting. He embraced life with an open heart and a mischievous grin. His unforgettable blue eyes always twinkled with the promise of mischief.

John was a wild child at heart, never one to follow the rules unless it was for the sake of bending them to his will. Whether it was spontaneous adventures, wild stories that were probably half-true (but always entertaining), or his ability to make friends with strangers in five minutes, John lived his life with a freedom and energy that was astonishing.

John lived life the way he wanted…unapologetically, fiercely, and with a spark that couldn’t be dimmed. Through all of this, John was blessed to have the unwavering support of his parents, John and Patricia. From childhood mischief to adult adventures, they were always there to guide, encourage, and share in his journey. Their love and support were the foundation that helped him through both the highs and the lows of life, and their strength provided him with the courage to keep going, even when things got tough.

He was a free spirit in every sense…someone who could make you laugh (or swear) until you cried and remind you not to take life too seriously. He had a knack for turning the simplest moments into adventures, and the world is a little duller without his spark.

John is survived by his parents, John and Patricia Lampi of Lunenburg, MA; his brother, David Lampi, and his wife, Shannon Lozeau, of Winchendon, MA; and his sister, Tanya Lampi, and her husband, Timothy Riel, of Exeter, NH. He is also survived by his beloved niece, Grace LampiRiel, and nephew, John LampiRiel. His family will carry his memory forward with love, laughter, and countless “remember when John…” stories, especially those involving the beach, fireworks, pranks, and cookies.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date and location. While no words can truly capture the essence of John, we invite you to join us in celebrating the man who lived life loud, wild, and full of love, heart, humor, and a near-mythical appetite for everything good in life, especially food…and who probably left behind a few singed fences and a lot of great stories.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do something spontaneous today…in honor of John. Whether it’s indulging in your favorite meal, sharing some cookies with a friend, setting off some sparklers (safely, of course), pulling off a harmless prank on a friend, or just telling a wild story, do it with the same fearless joy and appetite for life that John had.

John B. Lampi will be missed beyond words, but we know that wherever he is now, he’s probably enjoying a plate of Christmas cookies…making new friends, cracking everyone up with that unforgettable laugh, and flashing those unforgettable blue eyes as he sets off a few fireworks, just for fun.
