John Marshall Jr.

On Friday December 10, 2021 John Joseph Marshall, Jr., loving husband of 40 years to Anne Deirdre Digan, passed away from complications of a stroke and cancer at age 72.
John was born on August 23, 1949 in Brooklyn, New York to Nora Sullivan and John J. Marshall, Sr. He spent his formative years in Bay Ridge, New York and Sparta, New Jersey. John received a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University in 1972 and a law degree from Fordham University in 1977.
He practiced law in Queens as Assistant District Attorney for two years followed by 35 years engaged in private practice. Areas of his practice included real estate, bankruptcy and civil litigation, however the practice had evolved into one with a heavy emphasis on criminal defense.
John's career also included two years serving as Principal Law Clerk to the Honorable George R. Peck, Justice of the Supreme Court. His duties included legal research, drafting of opinions and conducting conferences with prosecuting and defense attorneys.
John had a passion for law but also for baseball. He would often fly to a city to watch a game and then return home.
He was known for his wit, intelligence and his kind and compassionate spirit. His care and devotion to his wife Anne was unwavering and a loving example to us all.
John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Anne, his sister in law Margaret Digan Sinclair, her husband Christopher and their three children Catherine (Michael Williams), William (Brooke) and James. Also surviving are John's cousins Andrew and James Smith, Ellen Truelove, Sheila Knight, John M. Marshall, Maryann Hamer, Carolyn Lehnardt, Dianne LeSage and Edward, Dennis and Paul Melvin.
