John L. Masucci, 92, of Youngstown, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 6, 1932, in Baiano, Italy, John was the beloved son of the late Michael and Anna (Napolitano) Masucci.

His deep love for all things Italian was rooted in his heritage. When John was just two years old, his mother brought him to the United States to join his father and the rest of the family already living here.

A 1950 graduate of South High School, John went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army. After returning from military service, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Youngstown College. He later pursued his passion for education, earning a second bachelor's degree in education from Youngstown State University, where he was a founding member of the Beta Omicron chapter of Alpha Phi Delta fraternity. He continued his studies and obtained a Master of Science in Education from Westminster College.

John began his career as a teacher in the Austintown School District and later served as principal of Frank Ohl Middle School. After retiring from the school district in 1985, he returned to Youngstown State University, where he taught education courses and mentored aspiring teachers for 13 years.

On August 8, 1970, John married the love of his life, Judith (Whittaker) Masucci. Together, they shared nearly 55 beautiful years of marriage, filled with laughter, family, and unwavering devotion. Nothing brought John greater joy than spending time with his grandchildren-especially when they were all together.

John took immense pride in caring for his lawn, which he fondly referred to as his "therapy." He loved sitting on his front porch, enjoying the outdoors, and chatting with neighbors. He also had a lifelong passion for water skiing and boating at Lake Milton, cherishing every moment spent there with family and friends.

Affectionately known as "Pops" by his grandchildren, John was a master of Scopa, a skilled cannoli maker, and a joyful host who loved gathering for meals and sharing stories-often while already planning the next one. In earlier years, he and Judy enjoyed dancing as part of a local group, creating cherished memories and lasting friendships.

John was admired by friends and neighbors alike for his integrity, humility, and sense of humor. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and family.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Judith Masucci of Poland, Ohio; his son, John M. (Kristin) Masucci of Poland; his daughter, Lisa (Jim) Knopp of McKinney, Texas; and four beloved grandchildren: Alexa Knopp, Zane Knopp, Syda Masucci, and Sammie Masucci.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings: Alphonse Masucci, Stephen Masucci, and Rosemary Masucci.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, and again on Thursday from 9:15 to 10:15 AM at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, OH 44514. A prayer service will be held Thursday at 10:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish, 2729 Center Rd., Youngstown, OH 44514. John will be laid to rest at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
