Poland - Mary Ellen Lloyd, 88, formerly of Canfield, passed away after an extended illness on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at The Inn at Poland Way, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Ellen was born April 7, 1936, in Saginaw, MI, a daughter of the late Raynard and Pauline (Sherman) Jones.
She graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and went on to attend the University of Michigan Law School, one of 3 women in the class. She left law school to marry her husband, Kenneth M Lloyd and was an integral part of his successful dermatology practice in Boardman, Ohio. Once the practice was established, Mary Ellen went back to school and obtained her CPA degree. She later earned a Master's Degree in Accounting from Kent State University. For the next 20 years, she served as a professor at Mount Union College teaching accounting before retiring. Her dedication to her students and her field left a lasting impact on the college community.
Mary Ellen was deeply involved in the Mahoning Valley community. She served as president of the Junior League of Mahoning Valley, was president of Youngstown Town Hall, and chaired several events. She also served as a board member and president of the Youngstown Hospital Association for the Western Reserve Care System for many years.
She enjoyed playing bridge with long-time friends at Youngstown Country Club and was an avid reader, writing many book reviews for various publications.
She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Jenifer R. (Dr. John Dunne, Jr) Lloyd of Poland, OH, and Dr. Jessica A. Lloyd of West Lebanon, NH; five grandchildren, John (Anna) Dunne, III of Minneapolis, MN, Kenneth (Madeline Scholl) Dunne of Brooklyn, NY, Jon Benjamin (Jaehee) Gotow of Nashville, TN, Dr. Erica (Tomasz Lloyd) Gotow of West Lebanon, NH, and Andrew (Hilary Miller) Gotow of Cambridge, MA; and four great-grandchildren, Elise Dunne, Lukasz Lloyd, Elliott Lloyd, and Ray Gotow.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Kenneth M. Lloyd, II, whom she married on June 13, 1959. Dr. Kenneth M. Lloyd, II, passed away on November 4, 2016.
There will be no calling hours or services at this time. The family will plan a celebration of life at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main Street in Poland.
