John was one of my son Scott's very best friends. They shared an apartment after college and after John moved to Florida, John visited Scott whenever he could and they remained best friends. They talked on the phone often and always had long conversations. John will be missed by all of his Bay City friends.

The last time I saw John was at an "unofficial St. James reunion" in Birmingham, MI about 20 years ago. I don´t know who planned this night at Dick O´Dowds Bar, but it was wonderful to see the old gang and catch up! John was especially easy to talk with - like no time had passed at all - and he always made me laugh. Rest in peace my old friend. The world won´t be the same without your kind spirit.

I may not have known John as well as others but I worked with him a little while. He was brilliant and brave in his kindness. Always a fun guy to be around no matter the circumstances. I wish I'd known him better. He will be sorely missed. We need more people like him in the world. My heart-felt condolences to his family and friends.

I had the opportunity to work with John professionally over the past few years. Although we both lived in Florida (him Tampa; me Miami), we always loved talking about Chicago and great food. I even forgave him for his one great character flaw - his love of Notre Dame - and he forgave for mine - my love for the Illini. I couldn't help but enjoy his passion for the Fighting Irish, and going forward, in honor of John, I will give all Notre Dame fans a pass (but not Michigan fans).
In all seriousness, I'm thankful to have met John and he will be missed. He always made the job and the day better after you spoke with him. That's a gift. My condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Meagher/Roese family - I had the pleasure of chatting with John when he was in Bay City in June, visiting Don and Sue David. I happened to be in Michigan that day, hadn´t seen him since possibly St. James days. He seemed very happy (career, living near family in Florida, had a great reunion with family at his grandmother´s farm). I´m so sorry to hear of his passing and for your loss.

I lived near John in Fl. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and offer free advice. When he came to visit he was always driving a shiny Jaguar! RI P.
