John J. Mento Sr., 88, of Stevens, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born in West Chester to the late Anthony and Doris (DiFernando) Mento and was the husband of Gladys E. Mento, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.
He was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. John worked for Pepperidge Farm for 39 years, retiring in 1997. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from Downingtown High School, Saint Joseph's University and Immaculata College. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was the treasurer of the Dream Mile Fishing Club. He loved to travel and play the piano. John had his own frozen food company and was the small business owner of many ventures.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by six children: Kathleen, wife of Steven Patton; John Mento Jr., husband of Elinda; Vince Mento; Veronica Wilson; Margaret, wife of Jason Henkels; Tina Mento, wife of Luca Fabbrizzi; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three siblings.
A viewing will be held Friday, September 6, 2024, from 11 AM to 12 PM, at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 320 Church Avenue, Ephrata, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 PM, with Fr. Paul Borowski, C.SsR. as Celebrant. Final Commendation and Farewell will take place in Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Food Bank, 320 Church Avenue, Ephrata, 17522.
