John William "Jack" Rynerson

John William "Jack" Rynerson, a man of honor, wit, and generosity, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, in Bradenton, Florida, with his family at his side. Born on June 19, 1937, in Ludington, Michigan Jack's life was a testament to his intelligence, humor, and boundless spirit of giving.
Jack's formative years were spent in the warm embrace of his family in Winter Haven, Florida. He was the beloved son of the late William Elden Rynerson and Coralie Campbell Rynerson. Jack's journey of academic and personal growth began at Winter Haven High School, where he graduated with the class of 1954. He furthered his education at Florida State University, where he was an active member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, majoring in Advertising, in 1958.
His commitment to service was evident early in his life. While at Florida State University, Jack joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and was accepted into the U.S.N. Reserve Officer Candidate program, receiving a commission as Ensign. He reported to active duty following graduation, serving his country with distinction until 1961. Jack's dedication to the Navy continued long after his active duty ended, completing 20 years of active and reserve service and retiring with the rank of Commander in 1976.
After fulfilling his active Navy commitment, Jack returned to Winter Haven to join his father at the family's daily newspaper. In 1972, he succeeded his father as publisher of the Daily News Chief and served as the publisher and chief editorial writer until the paper was sold. His leadership and vision were instrumental in guiding the publication through times of change.
In 1980, Jack moved with his family to Bradenton, Florida, where he became a pillar of the community. His involvement in civic activities and numerous service clubs was extensive and impactful. He served on the Board of Directors of Manatee Memorial Hospital for 15 years, the Mote Marine Laboratory for 3 years, was appointed to the Tourist Development Council for 6 years, was a member of the Board of Directors of Sarasota Bradenton Airport Authority for 3 terms and was a member of the Manatee Chamber of Commerce for many years.
Jack's passions extended beyond his professional and civic duties. He was an avid sports car racing enthusiast, joining the Sports Car Club of America in 1968. Over his 20-plus years of racing, Jack competed in prestigious events such as the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring, leaving his mark on tracks like Road Atlanta and in many national and regional races. His expertise and love for the sport led him to become a chief driving instructor for SCCA.
Boating was another of Jack's loves, reflecting his deep appreciation for the serenity and beauty of the water. His intelligence always shone through, whether navigating the complexities of a race or steering through the calm of the sea.
Jack's legacy is carried on by his wife of 63 years, Frances S. Rynerson, and his devoted children, Kelly, Michelle, and Michael Rynerson, who will forever cherish his memory and the joy he brought into their lives.
John William "Jack" Rynerson lived a life marked by achievement, service, and joy. His intelligence, generosity, and humor touched the lives of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a community forever enriched by his presence. Jack's life was a journey well-traveled, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of accompanying him along the way. Commander John William Rynerson, USN (Ret) will be interred at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
A Committal service will be held on Monday November 17, 2025, at 10AM at Sarasota National Cemetery 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 3424. With A Celebration of Life to follow at the Bradenton Yacht Club 4307 13th St W., Palmetto, FL 34221, on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 1 PM to 3 PM.
