John "Jack" Shaughnessy, Jr., passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the age of 68. Jack was born in Norwalk on August 24, 1957, the son of John Shaughnessy, Sr., and the late Anne (Straniti) Shaughnessy. He attended local parochial schools and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1975. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Business Administration and Management.
In 1979, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as an Avionics Instrument System Specialist. During his time in the Air Force, Jack was stationed on Guam and in Charleston, SC. He received an award for outstanding professional judgment, exceptional technical ability, and exemplary leadership. He aided immeasurably in identifying and solving numerous problems encountered in the accomplishment of his duties.
Jack's professional life focused on Information Technology and Information Systems, and he served as lead senior project manager and scrum master experienced in insurance, legal, finance, and software development. He was recognized for his excellence in taking the data produced by his team and speaking confidently through his leadership role to progress business needs and influence productivity and business profitability. Over the course of his career, he worked with such companies as Aetna, IBM, Bayer, and General Electric (G.E.).
Jack was passionate about the Pittsburgh Steelers and UCONN women's basketball. He also loved spending time with his friends he'd known since his youth, his hotrods, his cat Benjamin, and his family. He will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, typical dad jokes, and his laugh.
In addition to his father, Jack is survived by his three children: Curtis Shaughnessy, Stephen Shaughnessy, and Laura Lavoie; two cherished granddaughters, Sadie and Antonella Shaughnessy; and his sister, Marianne Shaughnessy. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his mother, Jack was predeceased by his sister, Kathy Jambeck.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave. Norwalk, CT, from 5 to 7 p.m. The friends and family are welcome to the burial on Thursday, October 23, at St. John's Cemetery, 223 Richard's Avenue, Norwalk, CT, at 11:00 a.m.
