John T. (Jack) Thompson sunk his final putt on December 18, 2024. He teed off on February 10, 1938 in Saginaw, Michigan, the oldest son of Marian and Jack Thompson. Jack was subsequently joined by his siblings Jim, Mary, Dick, David, Betty, and Barbara.
Jack was proud of his Saginaw roots and continued to give back through the Saginaw Rescue Mission on an annual basis. He attended Saginaw High School prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. After his service to his country he joined the Saginaw Police force for four years, after which he was employed by the Dow Chemical Company. It was while working at Dow that Jack enrolled at Delta College where he received his degree in Criminal Justice. Jack proudly worked for 30 years in the Safety and Security Department at Dow.
It was while living in Midland that he discovered his passion for the game of golf! Whether it was with his friends, the Aggie Golf League, his wife Carol, or alone, he found his greatest peace and joy on Currie Golf Course in Midland.
During his walk on life's fairway he was joined by his first wife Sharon and their three children, Bart (Cory) Thompson, Dan (Colleen Farrell) Thompson, and Ashley Dubois. He then partnered up with his wife of 28 years, Carol. She added four additional members to the league with Anna (Charles) Keeley, Chris (Kate) Goralski, Jr., Tim (Kaitlyn) Goralski, and Leah (Tommy) Dunlap. Adding to the league were 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren who he adored. Those who walked by his side but did not finish the round were his parents, Marian and Jack, his brothers, Jim, Dick, and David, his sister Mary, and one great-grandson, Corey.
Jack's humor and the joy he found in the simple life will be missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Jack's life will be held at Memorial Presbyterian Church on January 3, 2025. The family will receive friends from 10am until the time of service to begin at 11am, followed by a funeral lunch in Mayton Hall. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Meridian Acres Assisted Living in Sanford, Michigan and Mid-Michigan Hospice for their kind, compassionate, respectful care of Jack and the family over the last several months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saginaw Rescue Mission or the Memorial Presbyterian Church food pantry.
