John William "Bill" Turner
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of John William Turner "Bill"; Beloved Husband, Father, Bompa, and Friend.
Bill passed away on October 3, 2025, surrounded by his caring family. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Georgiana R. Turner. His devoted children Laurie T. (Mark) Schreiner and Steven M. (Elizabeth) Turner. Beloved grandchildren, Ashley M. (John) Mastrella and Austin (Margi) Turner.
Bill leaves a legacy of music and laughter. Music was his passion. Bill started his musical journey in the InterHigh Choir in high school, moving on to lead vocalist in several Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas.
After serving in the United States Navy, he joined The Greece Community Singers, The Penfield Chorus, The Rochester Oratorio Society and The Genesee Valley Barbershop Singers.
He was a devoted Steward at St. Theodore's Church and served as a lector, cantor and chorus member for 40 years. Our hearts rejoiced when Bill became a founding member of The St. John's Home Chorus.
Bill was a huge sports fan, following most as the seasons went on. He did however root consistently for the New York Giants.
He retired from General Motors after serving 31 years in Quality Control. After retirement Bill volunteered at Unity Hospital.
His infectious laughter and smile left a lasting impression.
Bill's family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 3:00 – 7:00PM at DiPonzio Funeral Home- 219 Spencerport Road, Gates.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 10:30AM at St. Theodore's Church -168 Spencerport Road. Gates. Military Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery to follow Mass.
His spirit, voice and charisma will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him.
