John Valley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Miller & Hill The Funeral Directors - Alexandria on Sep. 25, 2024.
John Patrick Valley, age 56, of Alexandria, Louisiana passed on Friday, September 20, 2024 at his residence.
A service celebrating his life and legacy will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 11-16th & Day Streets, Alexandria, LA 71302.
Public Viewing & Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and continue until the start of service at 12 Noon.
John will be taken to the St. Davis Baptist Church Cemetery of Cloutierville, Louisiana where he will be laid to rest immediately following the service.
John Patrick Valley was born on November 6, 1967, to the late Reverend John Louis Valley, Sr. and the late Annie Jean Jefferson, Young. He was the only child born to that union.
John Patrick Valley was affectionately known as "Patrick" to his family. He received his primary education at Boyce Elementary and after graduating high school from A. Wettermark high, he attended Grambling State university.
Patrick was a life-long member of the Springhill Baptist church in Cloutierville, La and served faithfully overseeing the upkeep and business of the church after his mother was no longer able to do it.
After leaving Grambling, Patrick worked for the town of Boyce for a brief time but left for a position with Union Pacific railroad where he worked for over 30 years. His Union Pacific family referred to him as "big John" because of his size, but over the years he lived up to the name in so many other ways because of his love for the work. Patrick began in an entry level position, but worked many long hours and could perform most positions earning his way up to becoming the Manager of Train Operations. He was known throughout the state of Louisiana and beyond.
Patrick was a gentle giant and a giver. Although he was a true introvert, if he let you in, you saw that he had a big heart. He loved sports, movies, bowling and of course a good fried pork chop or burger with only lettuce.
Patrick was called from labor to reward on Friday, September 20th, at his home. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter: Sharetha Shante Coleman, two grandsons: Brice Miles Colbert, Jr. and Kaden Jamal Colbert, a sister: Charvet (Ananise) Robinson, a brother: John Louis (Kimelyn) Valley, Jr., nephews: Ananise Robinson, III and Xavier Valley, nieces: Kyra Jakes and Genesis Robinson, his aunt: McCleter DeCastro, his uncle: Charmles Valley, god sister: Schlanda DeShazier, goddaughter: Sionna Byrd and a host of cousins and friends.
Please keep the Valley Family in prayer.

I consider "Big John" as my professional mentor. He was the first manager that taught me the ropes. Never shy to express his opinions and provide guidance in the middle of the night when I was brand new to the company. Always there to support me and my family during my time in Louisiana. Truly a great man. Genuine, honest, and truthful. Qualities that are hard to find these days. We will miss you John. Love always, The Alvarado Family.

Sending my condolences to John´s family. John was always an amazing partner to work with in Alek. We had the best of times and he shared a lot of great knowledge. I will always remember him as a beacon of excellence and dedication to us at Union Pacific.
May you rest in peace my `big brother´. You will be missed!

He was my manager at UP. Definitely a man that would go out of his way to help you any way he could. He didn't let his title take away from his true caring nature. Rest easy Big John, you will be missed on the railroad.
