John Douglas Welborn was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and Papa. He was born to the late George Howard Welborn and Mrs. Inez Lopp Welborn on October 28,1936, at City Memorial Hospital of Thomasville, NC. God, in his infinite wisdom, called him home on Friday, October 24, 2025. As he made his
heavenly transition, he was welcomed by a family of angels made with love. "Daddy", "Pa" or "PaPa", as he was affectionately known by his family was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. George Welborn, his brother, George Ralph Welborn, uncles, John Wade Welborn and Reuben Holt, aunts Mildred Holt, Bonnlynn Welborn, Beulah Welborn and dear cousins, Ethel Welborn, Audrey Welborn Banks and James Edward Holt.
John was educated at Church Street School in Thomasville, NC, and proudly graduated with his diploma in 1954. During his high school years, he was involved in basketball and marching band. He was also a referee for men's and women's intramural high school games. He received his undergraduate degree from Shaw University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.
He was a devoted lifetime member of First Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a Trustee, taught Sunday school, and a member of Senior Choir #2. He was employed by Thomasville Furniture Industries and retired after 41 years of service. He also worked as a young man at Mann's Drug Store and the Thomasville Woman's Club.
He truly loved working in his yard. It was his pride and joy. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching football, basketball, and baseball. His favorite football team was the "Washington Redskins", who are now known as the "Commanders".
