John William Westbrook III, known affectionately as Jay to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, at the age of 61. Born on August 9, 1963, Jay's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his loved ones, his passion for adventure, and his commitment to his work.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, John Westbrook Jr. and Patricia Westbrook. He is survived by his adoring stepdaughter, Taylor Harrell, and a host of cousins with whom he shared countless joyful moments. Jay's life was further enriched by many close friends who became like family to him over the years.
For his entire career until retirement, Jay was a proud boilermaker at Sterling Industries. His work was not just a job but a calling, where he was known for his skill, reliability, and the camaraderie he shared with his colleagues. Jay's dedication to his craft earned him the respect and admiration of all who worked alongside him.
Outside of work, Jay was a man of many interests and a friend to all. He relished the opportunity to hitch his motorcycle trailer up for an out-of-area job, combining his love for travel with his professional expertise. When not on the job site, Jay could be found riding his Harley, feeling the freedom of the open road, and enjoying the companionship of fellow motorcycle enthusiasts.
A true outdoorsman, Jay was always the first to suggest a day at the lake. He was an avid bass fisherman, delighting in the tranquility of nature and the thrill of the catch. Friends knew they could count on Jay for laughter, stories, and the warmth of his presence during these lakeside retreats.
Jay's legacy is one of love, laughter, and loyalty. He was a man who lived his life with gusto, never missing an opportunity to lend a hand or share a moment of joy. His infectious smile and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Jay Westbrook, we celebrate a life well-lived and cherish the memories he leaves behind. Jay's journey through life was a testament to the power of friendship, the joy of adventure, and the importance of family. His spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his kindness and zest for life.
The friends of Jay would like to welcome all to a Celebration of Life on May 16, 2025 from 5-7pm at Sunset Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on May 17, 2025b at 10am with burial at Sunset Cemetery to follow. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of John, please visit our floral store.

Jay was a long-time customer of our automotive repair shop. We are so sorry for his passing. If everyone on this earth was a person like Jay...this would be a perfect place to live. Miss you Jay, until we meet again...Krista and Boy's

If you go through life and only have one true friend....He rode hard as a bull yet gentle as a lamb. As he professed aloud his lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ I knew he was good! Ride those streets of gold Baby!
