John Lee Wykes was born August 18, 1940, in a dairy farm house near Gaines, Michigan, to John Mark and Mabel Wykes. He was reborn as a child of God in the waters of Holy Baptism. Throughout his many years, John received the life-giving body and blood of Jesus. He was united in holy marriage to Karen Kirkman on August 20, 1960. She survives him after 64 years of marriage. On Monday, June 30, 2025, God called John home to Heaven.
Immediately after high school, John earned an Electrical Engineering Degree from General Motors Institute (Kettering University). He worked in Flint and Jackson, Michigan at General Motors and Consumers Power until 30 years old. John Married Karen when half through college, Karen 18 years old, John at two days past his 20th birthday. At 30 John left his engineering job to begin his much-loved career as a dairy farmer.
John and Karen have enjoyed traveling throughout all 50 states and many other countries, including Indonesia, Israel, Bahamas, Mexico, Cananda and several European countries.
John loved biking. He has peddled over 90,000 miles since he turned 60 years old.
In addition to his wife, Karen, John is survived by son, John Mark (Shelly) of Litchfield, Michigan; daughters, Jean (Richard) Eggleston of Hesperia, Michigan and Joan (Cory) McDowell presently retired and traveling; two sisters, Janice Richardson of Byron, Michigan and Marilyn Wykes of Flint, Michigan; brother, Dennis (Gabriel) Wykes of Texas; 8 grandchildren and their spouses and 11 great grandchildren. John loved his family dearly and prayed for each of them by name every day.
John was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don.
Funeral services for John Lee Wykes will be held Monday, July 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hillsdale with Rev. Sean Willman officiating. Burial will follow at St Paul's Cemetery in Hillsdale. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-5 PM at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Litchfield.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St Paul's Lutheran Church or South Litchfield Baptist Church.
