Johnnie Corene Saulters, 90, passed away on January 24th, 2025 in Grand Saline, Texas. She was born to Rev. Travis and Alice Jones on January 27, 1934 in Crawford, Texas.
Born into the Great Depression, she was thoughtful and resourceful from the start. One year, she drew five pink flowers on the back of her family's ration book and turned it into a Mother's Day card.
In March 1948, she became a devoted wife to Harold Edward Saulters. She followed him and his ventures around the state-from pastoring multiple churches together to running a coffee shop called The Coffee Cup, where the notepad she took orders on read: 'Boss: Mrs. Harold, Errand Boy: Mr. Harold'.
A stay-at-home mom for the first 10 years of her marriage, she went on to hold a number of jobs at Resistol Hat Company, Collins Radio, and Mineola ISD. Upon her retirement in 1989 she took classes at East Texas University, inspired by her children.
She spent the last three decades of her life in her Mineola home, tending to her garden and the neighborhood's many stray cats, which she considered to be her own whether they liked it or not. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith and unexpected humor (the paperweight she kept on her desk said 'Lord grant me patience. Right now!').
In 1996, she penned a short reflection on her life for a family genealogy book. In her own words: "I have a lot of good memories because of the good parents I had to guide me right, and let me know God always knows best whether it is the way we planned it or not."
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Harold Edward Saulters; son, Harold Eugene Saulters; and brothers, Alton Jones and Aubrey Jones. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Lana Saulters of Garland; daughter, Sharon Kramer of Mineola; son, Donnie Saulters and wife, Johnnie Saulters of Garland; and son, Johnny Saulters and wife, Alice Saulters of Caddo Mills. She leaves behind a legacy of 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
