Johnny Ray Young
May 30, 1965 – July 15, 2025
Johnny Ray Young, 60, of Osceola, passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 30, 1965, to the late Fred and Evelyn (Welker) Young, Johnny was a proud graduate of Penn High School, Class of 1983. He was preceded in death by his daughter Erika; his first wife, Joella E. Young; brothers Jack Dobbins and Mike Young; and sister Pat Easterday.
On October 7, 2000, Johnny married the love of his life, Torry (Bair), in a beautiful ceremony at Battell Park in Mishawaka. Their union was built on faith, friendship, and deep devotion.
A man guided by strong Christian values, Johnny found spiritual strength and community through worship at both the Seventh-day Adventist Church in South Bend and New Life Church in Osceola. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, followed closely by his unwavering love for his family.
Johnny had a joyful spirit and a passion for living. He never knew a stranger and rarely walked into a room he couldn't immediately light up. He delighted in bringing people together through music as a karaoke DJ, found excitement and his first passion in race cars. He enjoyed spending time and racing at Osceola dragway, known for his "Magic Carpet Ride" 1969 Camaro. He always had a new project underway around the house, and found joy in using this as another avenue to bring his family together. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his infectious laughter, and his overall larger-than-life presence. He worked for many years as a flooring installer, a trade he proudly learned from his Uncle Doug, most recently for comfort flooring. A man seemingly known by everyone, he was most proud to be known as Grampy.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Torry Young, and their children: Justin, Michael (Callie), Amber (Jake), Maria (Jesse), Joshua (Alisha), Nicholas, and Chase (Heather). He was a proud grandfather to eleven cherished grandchildren: Audrianna, Zander, Silas, Andrew, Tucker, Joella, Cora, Parker, Peyton, Ella, and Frankie. He is also survived by his brother Fred (Dawn) Young; sisters Jill Davis, Roberta (Ed) Burgess, and Chris Richey; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A celebration of Johnny's life will be held on August1, 2025 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at New Life Church with a memorial service immediately following at 7:00 PM, Osceola and also a Celebration of life August 2, 2025, 5:00 PM Mr. G's restaurant & lounge in Osceola.
Arrangements are entrusted to Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola.
