Jon Martin Tiger, age 76, passed away on April 12, 2025, following a lengthy lung illness. He was born and raised in Crowley, LA, a small town in southwest Louisiana, where he graduated high school and started college before joining the US Air Force. He dearly loved his country.
Jon spent his military tour in Wichita where he found a new hometown. He worked at Cessna Aircraft Company while attending Wichita State University. Following graduation, he joined the Boeing Company where he worked for 34 years before retirement, and then at Spirit Aerosystems for 7 years.
Jon was active in his church serving as an elder, chaired the nominating, the bylaws, and the pastor search committees. He served on the long-range planning and the missions committees. He ran the sound system, sang on worship team, taught adult Sunday School, and led a Small Group by Zoom. Once a month he worked at The Lord's Diner. The activity that provided him the most joy was leading a men's Bible study for about 12 years.
Jon was active in the community, serving on the Wichita Symphony board for 20 years during which time he was board chair for two terms. He was a board member for the Wichita Community Theatre, the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Wichita Program, and the Wichita Chapter of SHRM - the Society for Human Resource Management. He was a Big Brother with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Sedgwick County. Jon was co-founder and president of a national organization established to improve the lives of people on supplementary oxygen.
Jon won his first sailboat in a radio contest and sailing became a lifelong passion. Even on O2 he raced Hobie Cats all over the country and sailed in the Caribbean. He loved to play cards, read, put together puzzles, do crosswords, play video games, and watch TV. He not only loved great food but also enjoyed cooking it.
Jon is survived by his wife of 42 years, Laurel; sister-in-law Mindi McKenna (Joe); brother-in-law Ken Fouty (Cathy); nephews and nieces Matt Clinton (Kim), Mike Clinton (Kit), Shanna Clinton (Heather Youngs), Chris Fouty, Joe Fouty (Abbey), and Josh McKenna (Rachel); great nephews and nieces Daniel and Cole Clinton (Kodie); Julip, Nico, and Tyne Youngs; Paisley, Henry, and Jackson Fouty; Miles, Max, Luke, Georgia, and Tommy McKenna; Jon's cousins Chuck Reeves (Peggy) and Connie McCay (Mick); nephew Charley Reeves (Allison), niece Mary Margaret Arthur (Dewey); great nephew and nieces Reeves Arthur, Maggie Arthur, Katherine and Caroline Reeves. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanly and Donna Tiger and his brothers Ken and Jeff, as well as Laurel's siblings Steve and Ginny Clinton, and Mark Clinton.
