Joseph F. Callaghan, 82, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2023. He was the husband of Jane (Tobin) Callaghan for 60 years.
Born in Providence, Joe was the youngest son of Richard and Mary (Mythowicz) Callaghan, and the brother of the late Richard and Dennis Callaghan and Patricia Millard.
Joe was a proud graduate of La Salle Academy, and attended Providence College and Roger Williams University. He had a very successful career working for Gorham Mfg., Whiting & Davis, Co., H.W. Powers Co. (Boston, Ma) before retiring from Nutromax, Inc.(Brockton, MA) Throughout his career and retirement, he traveled the world and had wonderful stories to tell. He most enjoyed the times he and Jane spent at their condo on Maui It was his favorite place in the world. He enjoyed playing golf, and following the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots, and especially the P.C. Friars.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Susan Scungio and her husband John of Lincoln, and beloved grandsons, Alec and John Scungio, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Joe was a friend and mentor to so many, and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
His funeral will begin Wednesday, May 17, at 9am from the "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Matthew's Church, Elmwood Ave., Cranston. Burial will be private. Visitation will take place Wednesday morning from 8am until 9am in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
