Joseph G. Carroccia, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 31st at Brandywine Living at Reflections in Brick.
Joe was deeply admired by all who had the honor of knowing him. He had the most wonderful sense of humor, a contagious smile, sparkling green eyes, the biggest heart, and he always enjoyed hearing about his resemblance to Robert DeNiro and Tony Bennett. He was also an avid reader of all the local newspapers. Above all, he was the epitome of a hardworking, honest man his entire life.
Joe's parents, Salvatore and Filomena Carroccia, were from Lenola, Italy before coming to the United States where he was born. Joe grew up in North Plainfield before becoming a longtime resident of South Plainfield.
His father founded Carroccia Company, where Joe and his 2 brothers, Alfred and Charles, also worked as masons and later took over at the helm. The business flourished through the years, with a focus on building gas stations, and remains a successful family-owned business.
Joe served in the United States Army and was based in Germany during the Korean War before being honorably discharged as a corporal. Additionally, he held multiple positions within the Italian American Social Club of North Plainfield, where he was an active member for many years.
He is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Susan M. Carroccia (Viotto). He is also predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Filomena Carroccia, brothers Alfred Carroccia and Charles Carroccia, and sisters Josephine Tomaro and Dolores Menditto.
Joe is survived by his loving children, Colleen Carroccia, Joseph Carroccia and his wife Diana, and Michelle Listorti and her husband Stephen. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Gina Mauro and her husband Anthony, Nikki Columbus, and Marcella Roeser and her husband Alec. He is also survived by his sister, Agnes Campanelli and her husband Michael, and leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
He will be forever missed and remembered as a beloved father and PopPop.
Visitation services will be held on Sunday, April 3rd from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd., Toms River, NJ 08753. The Funeral on Monday will be private.
