Joseph Edward Cartwright II, age 57, of Dewitt, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 1, 1968, in St. Johns to his parents, Joseph and Karen Cartwright who survive him.

Joseph is also survived by his devoted wife, Alison; his children, Alexandria Jo Cartwright and Wyatt Xavier Cartwright; and his cherished grandchildren, Madilyn Grace Jenkins and Maeve Elaina Jenkins. He is also survived by his sisters, Holli Leann (Eric) Bailey and Melissa NyAnn (Randall) Toles; mother of his children, Amie Cartwright along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents.

Joseph lived a full and adventurous life. From a young age, he was athletic and enjoyed playing football, baseball, and wrestling during school. He was also skilled in shooting and archery. His love of the outdoors inspired many of his hobbies, including gold mining, bull riding, woodworking with his own sawmill, and painting in the style of Bob Ross. He had a deep appreciation for his Native American heritage and embraced learning about the culture, even teaching himself to play the flute.

Always eager to lend a hand, Joseph volunteered with the Special Olympics and Red Cross during Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. He was a busybody by nature, always working on a project or pursuing a new adventure. His vibrant spirit, kindness, and generous nature earned him the friendship and respect of many, and he will be remembered for the joy he brought to those around him.

Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30th at 1:00 p.m at the St Johns Depot and Rotary Park, 107 E. Railroad St. St Johns, MI 48879. All are welcome. Casual attire. Please bring memories of Joe, and pictures if you have them!
