Master Chief Gunner's Mate, Joseph Anthony Cassista, beloved husband, father, and shipmate went home to be with our Lord on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2023, leaving a hole in our hearts forever. Joey was born on December 21, 1970 in Nashua, New Hampshire, where he lived until just before his senior year in high school, graduating from Washington Academy in East Machias, Maine. On August 3, 1989, Joey entered his Navy with many goals, hopes, and dreams. He truly was "Joe Navy". He loved his Navy and his country, and he took care of his guys.
Our hero made it to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer in May 2012, touching many careers and hearts along the way. Joey was a Sailor's Sailor. He was known to say that EVERY Sailor was HIS Sailor from E-1 to O-10. He was proud and so driven to take care of them, teach them right, and push them out of their comfort zones. He was NEVER off-duty and always went where he was needed and did what had to be done. He loved being in the missile launchers, working with his Gunner's Mates and one of his proudest moments was when he received his Officer of the Deck qualification. A Senior/Master Chief Gunner's Mate driving the ship was a true accomplishment!
Master Chief had a very prestigious Naval career and he earned the respect of so many. His awards include: Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4), Navy Achievement Medal (3), National Defense Service Medal (2), various service and unit awards, and letters of commendation from his fellow officers, captains and admirals. Master Chief served his last day on active duty on August 31, 2019. He retired with 30 years of distinguished service.
Joey is survived by his wife and love of 27 years, Kimberly (Ball) Cassista, beloved daughters, Josie and Sophie, who will forever miss their Daddy, and precious Morkie, Molly. He is also survived by his sister Alyce (Chris) Phelan, and their three children Emily, Wyatt and Dylan. Joey was instantly loved and "adopted" as soon as he met Kimberly's parents, David and Diane Ball, sisters Denise and Kathleen, nephews David, Devon and Ivan; nieces Madelynn, Ava and Aimee, and great nephew, Nathan. He is survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, many shipmates, friends and family. Joey was preceded in death by his father, George and Uncle Bob, and brother-in-law, Carl.
Joey was the funniest person we knew and his stories and the sound of his laughter will live on forever. Our Joey, may you rest in peace in Jesus' loving arms. You will be in our hearts, thoughts and memories forevermore. Thank you for your love, your dedicated service, and everything that you mean to us. Fair Winds and Following Seas, Master Chief. We love you forever. We have The Watch.
A private service with Navy Honors has been rendered.

Joey and I worked together at Little Creek Naval Base. He was funny, profession, SUPER knowledgable, always quick witted (but sometimes played that down), fun to travel with, and just an all around super dude. He will be sorely missed. God bless you Brother and may the great oceans of Heaven wisk you into the presence of the Almighty for all eternity.
