Obituary published on Legacy.com by Douglass Funeral Home - Lexington on Jun. 1, 2025.
Joseph Thomas Tropeano of Lexington and Brookline, MA. peacefully passed away on May 26, 2025 surrounded by the love of his son and friends. He courageously moved through his life with Parkinson's for 19 years after being diagnosed, always active, never daunted by his condition. Born on October 26, 1949 in Arlington, MA to parents, Emily (Rudd) and Joseph Tropeano of
Lexington, MA. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Thomas Tropeano of Gloucester, MA. He is survived by his sister, Oona Tropeano of Lexington MA and Bradford, New Hampshire. And his son, Joseph Daniel Tropeano of Chelmsford MA.
He grew up in Lexington surrounded by a large and gregarious Italian family, attending Lexington schools, participating in sports and graduated from Lexington High School in 1969. He attended Bentley College and graduated in 1973.
Whereupon he worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department before joining his father and managing the Blue Hills Ski Area in Milton, MA.
After this, he worked with his father and brother at Larchmont Snowmaking designing Snowmaking systems across the globe. He was an avid skier and sampled every mountain he visited for business, establishing long-term friendships with many individuals in the ski industry.
He began scuba diving in Lexington, learning from his Uncle Philip, and took pleasure in diving all of his adult life. A familiar face in Gloucester for many decades, where he kept his boat the "Snowflake" he could best be described as a friend indeed when someone was in need. Often came to the aid of many captains that had problems underwater with their boats or propellers. The times he shared with his son scuba diving in Key West and the Bahamas were special.
He was gifted with agility and fearless determination, skied the highest peaks in the winter, and dove to the deepest depths of the ocean in the summers. Joseph was also a dedicated musician, playing bass guitar, since high school. It was a passion in his life and he continued playing weekly with the same musicians until a few years ago. He took pride in his membership as a Mason at St. John's Lodge in Boston. He joined after graduating from Bentley College, and it was a lifetime source of pride and connection.
Joseph was known for his dedication to his friends and family, always ready to help and share what he had. He lived his life with curiosity and adventure, never afraid to try anything new. Above all, he possessed a kind temperament and was known for his spirit of generosity. With his twinkling blue eyes, he was an incorrigible flirt and the ladies were drawn to him.
He was blessed to have developed many friendships early in life that endured to the end.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday June 4 at St. Brigid Church, 1984 Mass. Ave. Lexington at 11am. Visitation immediately prior to the Mass at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd. Lexington from 9:30am to 10:45am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
