Josephine "Jo" DeMayo passed away quietly on Wednesday March 19, 2025 at Royal of Cotuit Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mashpee. She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph DeMayo who passed away in 1986.
Jo was born November 27, 1935 in Norwood, MA to late parents Joseph and Toffee (Kaires) Bucknis. She grew up in Canton, MA where she completed high school and met her husband, Ralph.
Jo spent most of her life in Stoughton and worked as an Accounts Payable Clerk for several companies throughout her career. She nally was able to retire from United Liquors in 2007 and moved to the Cape in 2009 to be closer to her only child Gina. Jo found her greatest enjoyment from the various cats she owned over the years, going for long walks in the cranberry bogs, reading, a good cup of co ee, and spending time with her daughter.
Jo is survived by her daughter, Gina Girard, and her husband Don, of Mashpee, MA; her granddaughters Jessica Freitas, of Sandwich, and Amanda Rainville, of Sandwich; and her great grandchildren Nicholas Freitas, Zachery Freitas, Caitlyn Rainville, and Colin Rainville, all of Sandwich, MA. In addition to her parents, Joseph Bucknis, and Toffee Bucknis, and her husband Ralph DeMayo, Jo was preceded in death by her son-in-law Lester Devlin.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 74 Algonquin Ave. (RTE 151), in Mashpee.
